Microsoft 365 Security

Microsoft 365 security and hardening

Improve security across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, endpoints and associated cloud services — using the capabilities you already license, configured properly.

How do you secure Microsoft 365?

Securing Microsoft 365 starts with strong identity — multi-factor authentication for everyone, conditional access, and protected admin accounts — then email protection against phishing, controlled external sharing, managed and compliant devices, audit logging and alerting, and data protection such as sensitivity labels and data loss prevention. Microsoft Secure Score helps measure progress.

Use what you already pay for

Microsoft 365 includes substantial security capability, but much of it depends on licence level and deliberate configuration. Many tenants still allow legacy sign-in methods, lack consistent multi-factor authentication, permit unrestricted external sharing or have admin accounts used for everyday work.

We review the tenant against your licences and risks, agree a hardening plan, and implement it in stages so users are not caught out — then keep it current as part of Microsoft 365 management.

What we configure

Multi-factor authentication

Enforced for every user, with phishing-resistant methods for admins where possible.

Conditional access

Sign-in rules based on user, device, location and risk, where licensed.

Admin protection

Separate admin accounts, least privilege and privileged access controls.

Email protection

Anti-phishing, safe links and attachments, SPF, DKIM and DMARC.

Sharing controls

External sharing and guest access matched to how you collaborate.

Device compliance

Intune policies, encryption and compliance-based access.

Data protection

Sensitivity labels, retention and data loss prevention — vital before Copilot.

Logging and alerts

Audit logging enabled and alerts routed to someone who acts on them.

Connected capabilities

Where this connects to the rest of the work

Technology does not operate in silos. These are the capabilities that most often sit alongside this one in a real engagement.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which Microsoft 365 licence do we need for good security?

Business Premium or E3/E5 plans include significantly more security capability than basic plans. We recommend based on your risks and size rather than defaulting to the most expensive option.

What is Microsoft Secure Score?

A Microsoft measure of your tenant's security configuration with recommended improvements. It is a useful guide, but recommendations should be prioritised by your real risks.

Will enforcing MFA disrupt users?

Planned properly, no. We communicate, register users in advance and roll out in stages.

Do we need to do this before Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Strongly recommended — Copilot surfaces whatever users can access, so sharing and labelling should be in order first.
