Cloud Migration
Cloud migration services
Structured movement of applications, services, data and infrastructure into the right cloud environment — in controlled stages, with testing, rollback planning and clear go-live criteria.
What are the steps in a cloud migration?
A cloud migration typically runs through six steps: assess the current environment and dependencies; define the target architecture and migration approach for each workload; prepare identity, security, networking and backup; migrate in controlled stages with testing and rollback plans; stabilise and secure after each cutover; then optimise cost and performance continuously.
Move with control, not with hope
Most migration problems are discovered at cutover: a forgotten dependency, an application that needs a server it never mentioned, a licence that does not transfer, a performance surprise. They are avoidable with a proper assessment and staged approach.
We decide the right approach for each workload — move as-is, re-platform, modernise, replace with SaaS or retire — and sequence migration so lower-risk workloads prove the approach before business-critical ones move. Our cloud migration checklist shows what we check.
Migration approaches we use
Rehost (lift and shift)
Move workloads largely as they are — fastest, with optimisation afterwards.
Replatform
Small changes to use managed cloud services such as managed databases.
Modernise
Rework applications so they use cloud capabilities properly.
Replace with SaaS
Swap a self-hosted system for a suitable cloud product.
Retire
Switch off what is no longer needed rather than paying to move it.
Hybrid
Keep some workloads on-premise where that remains the right answer.
Our migration process
01
Assess
Inventory, dependencies, performance, licensing, data and risks.
02
Design
Target architecture, landing zone, identity, network, security and backup.
03
Plan waves
Sequence workloads, define tests, rollback plans and go-live criteria.
04
Migrate
Execute each wave with business communication and cutover management.
05
Stabilise and optimise
Validate, hand over to operations and right-size for cost.
Connected capabilities
Where this connects to the rest of the work
Technology does not operate in silos. These are the capabilities that most often sit alongside this one in a real engagement.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do we avoid downtime during migration?
By sequencing workloads, rehearsing cutovers, scheduling them for low-impact windows and having tested rollback plans. Some downtime may still be needed for specific systems; it is planned and communicated in advance.
Can our data be hosted in South Africa?
In most cases. Major providers operate South African regions; we confirm availability of each required service in-region as part of the design.
Do we have to move everything at once?
No — and we recommend against it. Staged migration reduces risk and lets value arrive early.
What about our on-premise servers after migration?
They are decommissioned once workloads are proven in the cloud and data is safely migrated, or kept where a hybrid model is the right answer.
