Service pillar 04 · Cloud Services & Migration
Cloud services, migration and modernisation
Plan the cloud journey, move with control and operate for long-term value. We define the cloud path, prepare applications and data, manage migration, strengthen governance and support the environment after go-live.
What does a cloud migration company do?
A cloud migration partner assesses your applications, data, identity and dependencies, defines the right target environment, then moves workloads in controlled stages with testing, rollback plans and clear go-live criteria. A good partner stays after the move to stabilise, secure and optimise cost and performance — because a cloud journey includes far more than moving servers or files.
Cloud is a business platform, not a destination
Clements & Cox defines the right cloud path, migrates workloads with control and helps the organisation operate securely and efficiently after the move.
A cloud journey affects applications, identity, security, data, integration, cost, resilience and the way technology is operated. We bring these parts together into a controlled programme — with the cybersecurity controls, managed operations and change management that a migration actually depends on. For South African organisations that includes choosing where data is hosted — Microsoft, Google and AWS all now operate local cloud regions — and designing resilience around local realities such as power and connectivity interruptions.

How we deliver a cloud journey
01
Understand the current environment
Map systems, users, data, dependencies, costs, risks and business-critical services.
02
Define the target state
Select the appropriate cloud model, architecture, controls and migration priorities.
03
Prepare the organisation
Address identity, security, data, integration, connectivity, backup and operational readiness.
04
Migrate in controlled stages
Move workloads using sequencing, testing, rollback planning and clear go-live criteria.
05
Stabilise and secure
Validate services, performance, access, resilience and operational support after migration.
06
Optimise continuously
Improve cost, utilisation, architecture, security and service management as the environment evolves.
Business benefits
- Scalability. Technology capacity grows more easily with changing business demand.
- Improved resilience. Cloud architectures support stronger availability, recovery and continuity options.
- Reduced infrastructure burden. Less effort maintaining ageing local infrastructure where cloud services fit better.
- Better collaboration. Modern cloud productivity platforms make information and teamwork more accessible.
- Cost optimisation. The environment is aligned to actual usage rather than left to grow without control.
- Foundation for AI. A modern cloud environment creates stronger foundations for integration, analytics and AI.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How long does a cloud migration take?
It depends on the number of workloads, their dependencies and how much modernisation is involved. We sequence migration in controlled stages so value arrives early and each stage has its own go-live criteria and rollback plan.
Can our data stay in South Africa?
In most cases, yes. Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Google Cloud and AWS all operate cloud regions in South Africa. We confirm data residency for each service as part of the design, because not every feature is available in every region.
Is the cloud always cheaper than on-premise?
Not automatically. Cloud cost depends on architecture, sizing and ongoing management. That is why cloud cost optimisation is part of our approach rather than an afterthought.
Should we choose Azure, Google Cloud or AWS?
The right platform depends on your existing licences, identity platform, applications, skills and integration needs. Many organisations already invested in Microsoft 365 find Azure the most natural fit — we recommend based on your environment, not a default.
What happens if something goes wrong during migration?
Every stage has tested rollback planning and clear go-live criteria, and business-critical services move only after the approach is proven on lower-risk workloads.
Do we still need backups in the cloud?
Yes. Cloud platforms provide resilient infrastructure, but responsibility for protecting your data and configuration is shared. We design backup, recovery and continuity arrangements explicitly.
